    Granite Countertops FAQ

Price depends on slab grade and origin, edge profile, cutouts, seams, tear-out, and install complexity, so every project is priced at your free in-home measure. Book your free in-home measure.

Granite is 100% natural stone with completely unique patterns and slightly higher heat resistance. Quartz is engineered, non-porous, and never needs sealing. We help clients pick based on lifestyle: families who cook heavily and want a one-of-a-kind look often choose granite; families who want low maintenance often choose quartz. Both are excellent in a Montana kitchen.

Yes — granite is porous and benefits from sealing every 1–3 years depending on color (lighter stones need more frequent sealing). Modern impregnating sealers take a few minutes to apply and dramatically improve stain resistance. We provide care instructions with every install.

Yes. Granite is one of the few surface materials that holds up through Flathead Valley freeze-thaw cycles when properly sealed. We help clients spec UV-stable, dense granites suited for covered outdoor kitchens, BBQ surrounds, and bar tops.

We work with trusted regional fabricators who template, cut, and finish your slab to spec. All install crews are vetted, insured, and experienced with Flathead Valley homes — from lake cabins in Bigfork to ski-in/ski-out builds in Whitefish.

Granite is one of the hardest natural stones on the market — around 6–7 on the Mohs scale — with excellent scratch and heat resistance. You can set a hot pan directly on granite without damage, and normal knife use won't scar the surface. Properly sealed, granite easily lasts 30+ years without visible wear.

Reseal every 1–3 years depending on stone color and use (lighter, more porous granites need it more often). Test the seal by placing a drop of water on the counter — if it beads, you're fine; if it soaks in within a few minutes, it's time to reseal. Daily cleaning is warm water and mild soap; avoid vinegar, citrus, and ammonia-based cleaners, which break down sealers.

Domestic and common imported granites are usually in-stock or available within 1–2 weeks from our slab yard partners. Exotic and bookmatched slabs from Brazil, India, or Italy can run 4–8 weeks depending on availability. Once slabs are selected, fabrication typically takes 10–14 days.
