    Common Questions

    Natural Stone Tile FAQ

Travertine, slate, and quartzite are the most popular natural stones for Flathead Valley mountain homes. They're durable through freeze-thaw cycles, hide dirt and snowmelt well, and read warm and authentic against reclaimed wood and steel finishes. Limestone is gorgeous indoors for warmer, more refined spaces.

Yes — most natural stone is porous and benefits from an initial sealer plus periodic re-sealing every 1–3 years. Travertine, limestone, and marble need more attention; slate and quartzite less. We provide care instructions and the right impregnating sealer with every order.

Yes — specific dense stones (travertine pavers, quartzite, dense slate, and certain granites) handle Flathead Valley freeze-thaw cycles beautifully. We help you choose stone rated for outdoor / freezing climates and supply the right thinset, mortar, and sealer system.

Natural stone has true depth, variation, and character that porcelain look-alikes cannot fully replicate. The trade-offs: stone requires sealing and is softer in some varieties. Porcelain look-alikes are bulletproof and lower maintenance. We carry both and help clients choose based on aesthetics, budget, and lifestyle.

We stock the most popular travertine, slate, and limestone formats; specialty stones, large slabs, and custom waterjet mosaics are special-order through trusted suppliers. Lead times are typically 2–4 weeks for special orders.
