    Marble Countertops FAQ

Price depends on slab grade and origin, edge profile, cutouts, seams, tear-out, and install complexity, so every project is priced at your free in-home measure. Book your free in-home measure.

Honest answer: marble is softer and more porous than quartz or granite, and it can etch from acidic foods like lemon juice or wine. Many clients embrace the natural patina; others choose marble-look quartz or porcelain to get the aesthetic with bulletproof durability. We'll walk you through the trade-offs so you choose with eyes open.

Carrara is a softer, more uniform gray-on-white from a specific region of Italy and offers excellent value. Calacatta is bolder, brighter white with dramatic veining and is significantly more expensive due to limited supply. Both are stunning — Carrara reads more classic, Calacatta reads more statement.

Marble shines in master bath vanities, shower walls, fireplace surrounds, accent walls, and powder rooms — areas with lower wear than the kitchen. Many Flathead Valley clients use marble for bathrooms and quartz for kitchens to balance beauty and practicality.

Yes. We work with trusted regional fabricators experienced in handling marble's softer composition. Our crews template, cut, finish, and install across Kalispell, Whitefish, Lakeside, Bigfork, and the broader Flathead Valley.

Marble is softer (around 3–5 on the Mohs scale) and more porous than granite or quartz, so it's more prone to etching from acids and scratching from knives or grit. It's still a natural stone that lasts generations — many Italian marble surfaces have been in service for centuries — but it develops a patina over time rather than staying showroom-perfect. For clients who want marble's look without the softness, marble-look quartz or porcelain slabs deliver a nearly identical aesthetic with much higher durability.

Seal marble every 6–12 months with a quality impregnating sealer. Wipe spills immediately — especially wine, citrus, coffee, and tomato — to minimize etching. Clean with pH-neutral stone cleaner or plain warm water and a soft cloth. Skip vinegar, bleach, and all-purpose cleaners; they'll etch and dull the polish. Use cutting boards and coasters routinely, and expect a gentle patina to develop over the years.

Carrara and other common Italian marbles are usually available within 2–3 weeks. Calacatta, Statuario, and rare bookmatched slabs can take 6–10 weeks depending on quarry availability and shipping. Marble-look quartz and porcelain alternatives are typically in-stock or available within 1–2 weeks. Fabrication generally takes 10–14 days once slabs are selected.
