    Common Questions

Cabin & Lake Home Flooring FAQ

For most Flathead Lake and mountain-lake homes, we recommend a combination: waterproof rigid-core LVP or porcelain tile in entries, kitchens, and baths, plus engineered hardwood in living areas and bedrooms. Solid hardwood can struggle with the humidity swings of seasonal-use homes — engineered is much more stable.

Solid hardwood is risky in cabins that aren't heated year-round — wide humidity swings cause cupping and gapping. Better choices are engineered hardwood (more stable), rigid-core SPC LVP (fully waterproof and stable), or porcelain tile. We help clients spec the right product for how their cabin actually gets used.

Porcelain tile is the most bulletproof, especially with epoxy or urethane grout. Commercial-grade waterproof LVP (22+ mil wear layer) is a strong second. Both shrug off sand, gravel, and standing water far better than hardwood or carpet — extend them at least 6 feet into the home from any lake-side door.

Yes — performance polypropylene indoor/outdoor rugs are perfect for lake homes. They hose off, dry quickly, and survive wet swimsuits and dog paws. We also carry wool and wool-blend area rugs for interior living spaces.

Absolutely. Vacation rentals need durable, easy-to-clean materials with strong warranties. We help short-term-rental owners spec consistent, hard-wearing flooring across multiple properties at trade-friendly pricing.
